An insight to walking football

Wednesday, September 30, 2020

 Hi

It has been widely publicised about the growing popularity of "Walking Football" with it giving not only the chance for the older generation to play again (having thought they never would), but the improvement of the health, fitness and well being of those taking part, the FA have become involved by way of issuing a standard format of rules to follow.

The latest revised issue 2019 being the latest and can be found on the WFA website

                                                            www.walkingfootball.com

Within the rules set out by the FA there are still some grey areas that could be challenged but it is early days.

Having played in a few friendlies and tournaments locally it is quite evident that different clubs and organisations tweak the rules. Sometimes this is unavoidable for different reasons, by and large the main rules are in place regarding the "well" being of the players, which is of utmost importance when you consider some players are well into their 70's.

However we still see some over physicality & running being done.

This actually has been known to put off many more players from taking part ,playing in matches tournaments and enjoying the benefits of the game.

 it needs stamped out.

There are rumblings going on about starting leagues which is great and each league , club, and it's players have a responsibility to see the game is played in the spirit it was designed for.

If all can agree to stick as closely as possible to the FA rules giving the same standards for us all to follow, we can improve on what is already a high standard.

                                                          "RETHINK RETIREMENT"

Bye 4 now stay safe
