An insight to walking football

Saturday, August 22, 2020

  Hi

Yesterday 21/08/2020, saw the 2nd session post lockdown for Desborough Walking Football. Again all precautions were met and the session once again got off to a good start thanks to the Kettering officials Matt & Tim aided by the founder members Rob Raines & John Shelton.

Despite Storm Ellen there was a good turn out, 22 this week, up 2 on last week, it was dry but very windy.

We kicked off with two teams of five & two with six players, the two teams of 5 struggled and were finding it tough going. A couple of the lads had to pull out due to injury Mick Woods (woody) hamstring & Andy surname & injury unknown.

This brought a rethink on the sides. which were changed to three 7 a side teams, with Matt & Tim flitting between playing and refereeing. With Ray Shillito the ref when both Matt & Tim were playing. It also enabled me to do a bit of filming.

Yes it would appear that there is some running being done, the FA rules state that so long as "one" foot
remains on the floor you are "walking".
So if you can create a technique of walking fast you are laughing. One of the lads is often penalised for running, he is 73 years old, should be getting a medal really.

All in all it was another good session, another step towards normality (or the new normal). It is what it is, we just have to make the best of it, which we do.

That is all for now, hope things are on the up where you are.
