An insight to walking football

Wednesday, May 29, 2019

Hello
Last weekend saw Desborough walking football in action again as they visited Leicester City Football Club's facility at Holmes Park Blaby. Where a small tournament for the over 60's was held.
The day was not just about football though. In between games a presentation was given on behalf of the Alzheimer's Society .alzheimers.org.uk/legacy The local Fire Brigade were also there giving out advice. This was followed by lunch, the day being sponsored & run by Leicester City Football Club. Well done to them.
Eight teams turned up to take part, they were split into two groups of four, playing three games each at twenty minutes a game.
An added edge to the rules was that it was three touch football, one to control, one to set up and one to pass. Then not being able to touch the ball again until somebody else did.
Desborough lost their first game and won their second, they had to win their third game to come second in their group.

The game was a tight affair with Desborough's opponents eventually taking the lead. It did not take long for Desborough to recompose themselves and with encouragement from the sidelines they got the equaliser.
With the wind in their sails it was not long before Desborough found the winner, an excellant team goal from keeper to goal scorer without an opponent getting a touch of the ball.

Over all it was an enjoyable day great facilities and well run. All participants received a complementary medal.
Once again well done LCFC.
