Hi
The last 3 posts have been all video's giving advice on how Walking Football should and should not be played.
It concerns me that within my local area Northamptonshire, Walking Football is not really being played in accordance and within the spirit of the game.
The logic behind the game No running, Minimal contact or even non contact is not being adhered to.
I am guilty myself of sometimes running or being unduly physical, there are times when a good player will turn you with his ball skills and contact can be accidental.
The thing is though we play close to the edge of the rules, rules that are often different from town to town,
some of it is just plain competitiveness, some of it it recklessness and some is bullying the other side.
It puts new members off, it puts them off playing in friendlies and tournaments which is sad.
All those who play Walking Football know the benefits of taking part as some of my fellow players have said in earlier posts.
There is a lot of potential in my area and I imagine in other areas too, for a friendly league to be started
but we all have to make the effort to dumb it down in order to play the game in the spirit it was intended to.
It is indeed a magic potion for those of us in our twilight years, but I think played in the spirit of Walking Football I believe there is a place for in at junior level.
Introducing kids to football through Walking Football would be a great way forward, getting used to receieving the ball controlling it then passing without fear of being clattered.
It would build up confidence on the ball, balance and awareness.
Walking Football for juniors why not?
Bye for now
